Tip:
Hey! Welcome to my blog. If you're a first-time reader, this blog has been following my experiences as an amateur stand-up comic. The blog makes most sense to read from the very beginning, so read from the first post on. Thanks for taking time to check out Learning to Stand xo

Honey Bee’s Open Mic Comedy Tuesdays 8:30 @ Fox and Fiddle Mississauga
This open mic comedy night (called "Can U Makem Laugh") is run by Marvin Black and emcee Jay Martin. I emailed Marvin in March to book a slot and he got back to me right away. He even gave me a choice of when I would like to go on since Honey Bee's gives new comics priority (amazing and rare!) My boyfriend Stuart was in Scotland and I wanted him to see the show so I booked for April 19 (I had a gig at Toronto Yuk Yuk's booked for April 12). Otherwise, I would've taken that following Tuesday.
I urge fellow amateur comics who have not performed here to email Marvin for a slot. This was by far the most fun gig I've had in my storied career. For starters, the crowd is awesome. Many people approached me after the show to make sure I felt their support even though I couldn't hear it. That was very touching. Jay Martin and Marvin Black and all the dudes they've got running the show are all so unbelievably sweet, friendly and supportive. They create a really laid back atmosphere and encourage comics in a way I haven't experienced in other clubs (with the exception of the Pantages Hotel Comedy Night). Often times when I have performed places, I feel nervous and out of place with the other comics who I can't readily communicate with. This is obviously my own fault and due to the bullshit I allow myself to dream up to justify my low self-esteem. But it's really nice to perform somewhere with people so nice you realize you're just being an asshat when you run to the parking lot following a show.
They were even nice enough to invite me back to perform on a show they held at the Vue on April 29th. I had a lot of fun and was very flattered with Jay's kind words about me in his introduction. I've included the video of the show here:
